Over the last 25 years I have had the privilege to be part of 3 very high performance teams. These have been wonderful experiences, and I thought I would resume this knowledge in its most basic form for a quick read.

Two days ago I stumbled on some very interesting statistics. The Gallup poll of October 2013 showed that only 13% of employees worldwide were engaged, 24% were actively disengaged and 63% were not engaged at all.

The big question on my mind is whether performance management through a bell curve, with the associated reward for the top 10% and the culling of the bottom 10%, can be compared to management by fear and a precursor to de-motivation. Or, as led to believe, are we achieving excellence through this process?
